Driving Uninsured? Multi-Car Insurance Might Help

A recent report commissioned by Churchill Car Insurance has shown that one in ten under 35s have mistakenly driven without car insurance before. Among the whole population, over 3.2 million motorists have driven for at least a day without insurance, and most of these lapses have taken place over the last five years.

Suffice to say, this is disconcerting news for car insurers; driving without insurance is inherently dangerous in that if you have an accident, you might not be able to cover the damages. This doesn’t just mean that you could suffer, but the owner of the other car can suffer, too – that’s why it’s illegal to drive without at least third party cover.

Tony Chilcott, head of Churchill Car Insurance, has said that “Driving without insurance poses a serious financial risk to both the driver concerned and to other law-abiding motorists. Motorists who don’t have valid insurance for their vehicle are liable for a fixed penalty of £200, or could face having their vehicle seized by police, losing six points off their license or being disqualified from driving. This could lead to prosecution with a possible maximum fine of £5000.”

Multi-car insurance can help make life simpler, and stop motorists from forgetting their insurance. In a household with two or three cars, it can be easy to lose track of the expiration dates of separate insurance policies; with multi-car insurance, you’re much less likely to forget to renew in time – and there’s only one policy to renew anyway!

Multi-car insurance policies are available from a range of providers including Churchill, Direct Line and Admiral, all with a range of benefits and discounts for the holder.
